Description:
The Junior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Drafter is responsible for preparing and revising engineering drawings for instrumentation and control systems supporting refinery capital projects, maintenance, and turnaround activities. Working under the direction of senior designers and engineers, this position develops AutoCAD drawings, updates existing plant documentation, and assists with drafting tasks related to process instrumentation, electrical controls, and field installations.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise instrumentation and control drawings using AutoCAD.
- Update P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, panel layouts, junction box details, and installation drawings.
- Assist engineers with drafting deliverables for capital and maintenance projects.
- Incorporate field markups (“redlines”) into existing engineering drawings.
- Maintain drawing revisions in accordance with refinery document control procedures.
- Assist with instrument location plans, cable routing layouts, and conduit drawings.
- Coordinate with Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process Engineering disciplines to ensure drawing accuracy.
- Participate in field walk-downs to verify existing conditions and gather information for drawing updates.
- Ensure drafting work complies with refinery engineering standards and applicable industry codes.
- Maintain organized electronic drawing files and project documentation.
- Associate degree or technical certificate in Drafting, Design Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 0–3 years of drafting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, petrochemical, or refinery environment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working in a refinery, chemical plant, or other heavy industrial facility.
- Exposure to instrumentation and control systems.
- Familiarity with ISA instrumentation symbols and drafting standards.
- Experience updating as-built drawings from field redlines.
- Knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), AutoCAD Plant 3D, or MicroStation is a plus.
- TWIC Card or ability to obtain one.
- Basic understanding of industrial instrumentation and control systems.
- Ability to learn refinery engineering standards and document control procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn from senior designers and engineers.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.
- Comfortable working both in an office environment and in refinery process units during field verification activities.
- Office-based with periodic visits to operating refinery units.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) during field activities.
- Ability to walk industrial facilities, climb stairs, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions when conducting field walk-downs.
