Description:
The Payroll Specialist is critical to the correct accounting of hourly pay per the parameters of the respective collective bargaining agreements . The Payroll Specialist ensures that the supervisor's recorded time and pay entries for hourly employees are accurate. The Payroll Specialist must analyze and apply the correct pay method based on the collective bargaining rules. The Payroll Specialist must also communicate and rectify questions or inquiries from hourly employees concerning pay issues , short term disability eligibility, vacation , etc . The Payroll Specialist consults and receives directives from Labor Relations concerning contractual pay issues. The Payroll Specialist must be well versed in contract articles related to hourly pay practices and compensation .
Job responsibilities:
- Analyze, review, and verify that hourly employee work time records contain accurate hours and the correct pay codes in accordance with the respective collective bargaining agreement. — 40%
- Access SAP and enter time worked, upgrades, vacation, sick-leave, or other corresponding code for each hourly employee. — 40%
- Serves as backup to the Payroll Coordinator, provide vacation relief, and serve as secondary SATS administrator. — 5%
- Analyze hourly employee absence summary to determine sick reinstatement and vacation entitlement. Input data for reference and recordation. — 5%
- Prepare/distribute various payroll related reports and assist on special requests as required (Budget, Solomon Study, etc.) — 5%
- Resolve all employees issues relative to discrepancies in hourly pay rate, hours worked, classification of hours, etc. Resolve hourly employee issues related to changes in bank accounts, W4's, etc., or request for W2 or sick pay data for insurance purposes. — 5%
- Associate Degree in Accounting, Business, or related plus 1 year experience with payroll processes governed by a collective bargaining agreement (preferred) or 3 years payroll experience with payroll processes governed by a collective bargaining agreement (preferred) if no Associate's Degree.
- Experience with SAP (Payroll Modules), Excel, Microsoft Office, Electronic Time Keeping Systems.
- This position possesses knowledge of the CCR collective bargaining agreements regarding hourly pay practices.
- It is critical that the Payroll Specialist analyzes and processes hourly pay in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- This position also has access to confidential information regarding earnings and in some instances disciplinary suspensions.
- The Payroll Specialist must be able to identify discrepancies and communicate corrective action to remedy the issue.
- The Payroll Specialist must also communicate constructively and effectively with hourly employees to resolve pay issues timely and efficiently.
- Based on business need it is desirable that there is minimal turnover in this position and that this position is categorized as a salaried position.
