Description:
As a key member of the Company’s senior management team, the Controller is responsible for collaborating with the corporate office to develop, lead, and manage accounting and finance operations and reporting, and is directly responsible for matters including capital, cost allocation, and financial processes. This position embodies the collaborative, entrepreneurial spirit that is the catalyst for the Company’s success. In addition, this position provides full support for partnerships with other departments in planning and executing the future growth strategy.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position oversees all aspects of the plant’s finance and accounting operations, including general accounting, tax, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, production costs, and month-end close.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position’s responsibilities will also include but not be limited to the following:
- Lead the finance and accounting operations of the plant, including implementing and maintaining a robust, scalable system of accounting records and policies, along with a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and improve the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results.
- Prepare and present cash flow reports, financial statements, and forecasts on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis.
- Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements, including activities related to audits.
- Prepare, review, and verify the accuracy of journal entries, inventory transactions, accounts payable activity, payroll, and account reconciliations.
- Ensure that company practices, billing, and receivables comply with customer contracts and MSAs; and/or collaborate with senior management on negotiating customer contracts and MSAs.
- Maximize relationships and economics with company suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure the company’s accounting procedures and reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Collaboratively prepare annual operating budgets by area.
- Oversee, manage, and guide or inform on all capital expenditures by project, ensuring they are recorded accurately and on time.
- Reviews financial performance, analyzes variations and their causes.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating, coaching, developing, rewarding, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems; and keeping employees informed about company information, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Sets and reports goals and metrics to measure the department’s success.
- Act proactively and responsibly as a timely problem solver with strong project management skills and a drive for results in meeting deadlines without sacrificing best practices.
- Support and comply with the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental policies and practices.
- Performs a variety of other duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation highly preferred.
- Over 7 years of hands-on accounting and reporting experience, with the past 5+ years serving as a Controller.
- Experience in a manufacturing or chemical environment is highly preferred, with Forest Products experience being a plus.
- Demonstrated proficiency in General Accounting and Cost Accounting required.
- Demonstrated strong skills in interpersonal communication, team building, change management, and presentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Outlook, with advanced skills in Excel.
- This position involves working with internal and external customers at various levels, and the ideal candidate must be able to interact professionally and effectively at all of them.
- Must be equally comfortable working in a team or independently.
- Must be detail-oriented, highly analytical, skilled in time management, and demonstrate a sense of urgency in work habits.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and to use discretion and sound judgment appropriately when dealing with management, employees, vendors, and customers.

- Must be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Requires occasional work outside regular hours to achieve job goals.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is often required to stand, walk, climb, sit, use hands to handle or grip objects, stretch and reach with hands and arms, maintain balance, stoop, crouch, or work in tight or awkward positions, and perform repetitive motions.
- This person may regularly lift and/or move more than 10 pounds.
- This position requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Generally, this role is performed indoors in an office setting but may occasionally require time spent in a manufacturing environment. While performing duties, the employee may be exposed to a variety of temperatures, vibration, odors, dust, heat, moving mechanical parts and equipment, vehicular traffic, and varying weather conditions. The employee may also frequently encounter loud noise levels typical of manufacturing or plant operations.
