Job Description

Senior Piping Designer 

Location: Corpus Christi, Tx

Description:

We are seeking a Senior Piping Designer to support Turnaround (TA) projects at our refining facilities. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality piping design packages and providing field support during critical turnaround events. The ideal candidate brings strong refinery experience, advanced AutoCAD skills, and extensive field walkdown expertise within an operating facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed piping layouts, isometrics, and design drawings using AutoCAD in accordance with the organization’s standards
  • Support all phases of refinery Turnaround (TA) projects, including scope development, planning, and execution
  • Conduct field walkdowns within operating units to verify existing conditions, tie-in points, and constructability
  • Collaborate with the organization’s engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams to ensure designs meet site requirements
  • Interpret and apply P&IDs, specifications, and vendor drawings into design deliverables
  • Identify and resolve field design issues in real-time during turnaround execution
  • Ensure compliance with the organization’s engineering standards, safety protocols, and industry codes (ASME, ANSI, etc.)
  • Generate material take-offs (MTOs) and support procurement and construction planning
  • Maintain accurate redlines and deliver as-built documentation following TA completion
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of piping design experience in refining or petrochemical environments
  • Proven experience supporting refinery Turnaround (TA) projects, preferably within the organization’s facilities
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (required)
  • Strong field walkdown experience in active refinery units
  • Working knowledge of refinery piping standards, specifications, and applicable industry codes
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a high-intensity turnaround environment
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with multi-discipline teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the organization’s systems, standards, and work processes
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling tools (e.g., CADWorx, Plant 3D)
  • Prior onsite turnaround support experience at large U.S. refineries
  • TWIC card and ability to meet the organization’s site access requirements
Work Environment:
  • Based at the organization’s refinery with a mix of office and field responsibilities
  • Heavy field presence required during Turnaround execution
  • Must be able to work in industrial conditions, including climbing, walking long distances, and wearing required PPE
