Description:
The Trade Compliance Classification Specialist will support the organization with overall compliance with U.S. laws and regulations governing both export and import classifications; and related company policies and procedures. This position requires 3-5+ years of trade compliance Classification experience, and will support the Trade Compliance department in other Trade related duties as required. The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic and proactive in email and verbal communications with Internal Company associates. The candidate should be able to meet/exceed internal customer expectations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support Regional/BU International Trade Compliance Representatives (ITCRs) by providing remote guidance and compliance support regarding HTS, Schedule B and ECCN Classifications.
- Review product descriptions, technical drawings, and material specifications to assign accurate HTS/HTSUS and Schedule B codes
- Prioritize Urgent incoming Classification requests from ITCRs, requesting additional information or supporting documentation as needed
- Interpret Customs rulings, explanatory notes, and legal regulations to ensure full adherence to import and export control laws
- Update Product Database Spreadsheet with new/updated Classifications
- Work with ERP team to update product master database
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the Company Trade Compliance classification program.

Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or Transportation, International Trade or related field preferred.
- Applicable job experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Licensed Customs Broker, preferred but not a must
- A minimum of 3-5+ years of international trade compliance experience in classification
- First-hand experience completing US HTS/schedule B/ECCN classification
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Gov. agencies; BIS, CBP and OFAC
- Knowledge and use of the GRI’s
- Extensive knowledge of the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule
- Use of section and chapter notes
- Ability to write a defendable classification rationale
- Extensive knowledge of the BIS Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
- Comfortable reviewing, manipulating, and auditing data in Google Sheets/Excel
- Experience working with Global Trade Management tool
- Knowledge of PowerBI and reporting
General Summary:
The primary focus of this position is to facilitate global trade and help ensure compliance with customs regimes and various other agency regulations. The Trade Compliance Senior Analyst must exhibit strong research and analytical skills, often being asked to interpret import and export regulations. This position typically requires 5+ years of experience in trade compliance or an importer/exporter environment, with a deep understanding of complex regulations (like EAR and OFAC) and often requires cross-functional leadership.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Provide remote trade compliance guidance and import/export transaction support to Regional ITCRs across multiple business functions.
- Serve as point of contact for internal trade compliance questions from logistics, procurement, and project teams.
- Act as subject matter expert for U.S. trade compliance (Customs, Import/Export, Export Controls)
- Perform and validate HTS classification and country of origin determinations for all relevant equipment and products.
- Ensure compliant import and export transactions in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other applicable authorities
- Support duty, tax, and fee calculations, including preferential trade programs where applicable
- Manage, oversee and evaluate customs brokers and service providers in the U.S
- Perform Export Control and Dual Use compliance, including license determinations where applicable.
- Perform compliance review of import, export documentation for international shipments
- Supporting other Compliance Department activities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
- Strong analytical and database management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to interact effectively at all levels
- Proven organizational and management skills
- Knowledgeable on import requirements, Code of Federal Regulations Title 19, ACE, HTS classification, and Participating Government Agencies regulations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in related discipline or equivalent experience and/or a minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience in international operations, import or exports, and/or customs brokerage.
- Compliance Specialist (CCS) certification is a plus.
