GCR AFE Analyst

Location: Houston, TX - Hybrid

Description

The GCR AFE Analyst provides monthly financial performance analysis and reporting related to the Approval For Expenditure (AFE) process as well as ad hoc Capital Cost review and oversight in support of the Gulf Coast Rockies Business Unit.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Own GCR AFE approval process ensuring accurate, complete, and timely approvals for expenditures in accordance with Corporate policies

  • Validate and/or recommend expenditure classification through understanding and interpretation of accounting policies

  • Responsible for research, analysis, recommendation, communication, and financial results of joint venture audit requests, settlement of suspended costs to AFEs, interpretation of disputed cost type, timely AFE closure, and impacts to metrics

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures as necessary, with an emphasis on internal controls

  • Proactively collaborate with Financial Services - Joint Venture, AFE, Fixed Assets, Supply Chain - Invoice Processing, Drilling, Completions, Facilities, and Projects Engineering, and others to ensure proper understanding, coding, approvals, and recording

  • Deliver timely approvals for over-expended projects in support of Internal Control Standards by partnering with key business unit stakeholders

  • Provide routine and ad-hoc financial reporting to facilitate understanding of results in achieving the teams’ goals and strategies

  • Ensure all monthly, quarterly and annual corporate reporting requirements are fulfilled

  • Liaise with JV partners, auditors and stakeholders regarding financial activities of the entities as necessary

  • Participate in nxtgen IT systems projects, ensuring successful transition

  • Provide analysis and AFE system support to GCR Region

  • Address special projects/assignments using others in and outside the group to complete as necessary.


Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Accounting or related field

  • Experience using data analytics to support decision making


Preferred:

  • Experience with financial process improvement

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Experience with data analytics tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or related

  • Strong presentation and summarization skills

  • Able to prioritize/perform multiple tasks; able to adjust to unexpected and changing conditions and still meet deadlines
