Job Description

Facilities Engineer

Location: Carthage, TX

Position Summary


The Facilities Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, reliability, and safe operation of surface facilities supporting upstream oil and gas production. This role provides engineering support for production, compression, gathering, treating, water handling, and measurement facilities while ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives.

This position is based in Carthage, Texas, and reports directly to the Operations Manager. The Facilities Engineer works closely with Production Operations, Construction, Pipeline and Midstream, HSE, and Capital Projects teams to maximize asset performance and execute facility projects efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities 

Facility Design & Project Management
  • Design, oversee, and support the installation, modification, and expansion of oil, gas, water, and compression facilities.
  • Develop facility scopes, engineering specifications, equipment sizing, and construction packages.
  • Manage capital and expense projects from concept through commissioning and startup. 
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure project objectives are achieved. 
  • Prepare cost estimates, project schedules, economic evaluations, and authorization for expenditure (AFE) documentation. 
  • Support facility planning for new wells, field development projects, and infrastructure expansions. 

Production & Operations Support
  • Monitor facility performance and identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reliability, and operating costs. 
  • Troubleshoot production equipment and process issues, including separators, compressors, heaters, dehydration systems, pumps, tanks, and measurement equipment. 
  • Support startup and commissioning activities for new facilities and equipment. 
  • Develop and maintain facility operating procedures and engineering standards. 
  • Collaborate with field operations personnel to resolve operational challenges and improve asset performance. 

Reliability & Asset Integrity
  • Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability. 
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical equipment. 
  • Monitor facility integrity and ensure compliance with mechanical integrity requirements. 
  • Conduct root cause analyses and recommend long-term solutions to recurring operational issues. 
  • Assist with risk assessments and facility audits. 

Regulatory Compliance & HSE
  • Ensure facilities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. 
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives related to emissions, produced water management, and spill prevention. 
  • Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Management of Change (MOC) processes where applicable. 
  • Promote a strong safety culture through active participation in safety meetings, field observations, and incident investigations. 
  • Ensure engineering designs and modifications meet company HSE standards. 

Financial & Strategic Support
  • Prepare capital and operating budgets related to facility projects. 
  • Evaluate project economics and provide recommendations based on return on investment and operational impact. 
  • Track project expenditures and support cost-control initiatives. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve production, reduce downtime, and optimize LOE 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or petroleum engineering required. 
  • 10+ years of facilities engineering experience in upstream oil and gas operations
  • Experience with natural gas production facilities, compression, gathering systems, and water handling infrastructure preferred. 
  • Experience managing capital projects and coordinating construction activities. 
  • Familiarity with facility design standards and industry best practices. 
  • Strong understanding of oil and gas production equipment and surface facility operations. 
  • Knowledge of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and engineering drawings. 
  • Experience with pressure vessels, compressors, pumps, separators, dehydration systems, and measurement equipment. 
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and economic evaluations. 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering software. 
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with experience in natural-gas focused upstream ops
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, and other relevant industry standards. 
  • Experience with SCADA systems, automation, and facility optimization initiatives

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Job is classified as light physical work in an office setting involving sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking and standing.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift, carry, push or pull 10-25 pounds.
