Job Description

Storage Tank Construction Manager

Location: Corpus Christi, TX

Description

Seeking an experienced Storage Tank Construction Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and quality of storage tank capital projects at our Corpus Christi Refinery. This is a field-focused role, with approximately 60–70% of time spent walking down projects in the field, coordinating closely with contractors and internal teams to ensure construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project goals and standards.

This role is not an engineering position—it requires strong field construction or field engineering experience, especially in managing API 650/653 tank projects. A degree in engineering is not required, but candidates with technical degrees are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily construction activities related to storage tank capital projects (new construction, repairs, retrofits).
  • Conduct regular field walk-downs to monitor contractor performance, progress, safety, and compliance.
  • Participate in schedule review meetings and contribute to improving construction schedule milestones.
  • Plan look-ahead construction activities and lead/direct labor crews in the field as needed for assigned projects.
  • Conduct constructability reviews and cold-eye reviews to assess safety, quality, and construction readiness.
  • Submit or review RFIs related to changes in scope, budget impacts, or schedule adjustments.
  • Review and support project documentation including turnover packages and punch list closeouts.
  • Participate in construction readiness reviews and ensure smooth transition through project phases.
  • Coordinate with project controls, inspection, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain familiarity with construction budgeting and scheduling processes and their impact on project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes (API 650, API 653), company specifications, and refinery safety/environmental requirements.
  • Attend contractor meetings, safety briefings, and progress reviews to drive execution excellence.

Qualifications:
  • Field construction or field engineering experience is required, ideally with direct storage tank project exposure.
  • Strong working knowledge of API 650 and 653 standards.
  • Ability to lead, direct, and coordinate with contractors and internal departments in a live refinery setting.
  • Familiarity with turnaround and capital project environments.
  • Ability to perform field walkdowns, climb ladders/stairs, and work in outdoor industrial conditions.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
  • Engineering degree not required, but a technical degree is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in refinery or heavy industrial construction management.
  • Prior experience managing tank construction or repair projects within a refinery.
  • Understanding of construction safety, QA/QC, work permitting, and documentation practices.
