Job Description

R&D Lab Technician

Location: Pasadena, TX

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform non-routine lab analyses as required.
  • Carry out routine tasks associated with a laboratory environment accurately and while following strict methodologies.
  • Observe proper lab housekeeping practices.
  • Make basic titration solutions.
  • Change utility gases.
  • Maintain lab samples and properly dispose of waste in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment:
  • Titrators
  • pH meters
  • Balances
  • Densitometers
  • Sample cylinders (cleaning, purging, replacing quick connects and valves)
  • Vacuum pumps
  • Use analytical techniques and instrumentations:
  • Gas chromatographs (GCs) with liquid and gas sample valves
  • GCs with autosamplers
  • GCs with manual injection
  • Total nitrogen and sulfur analyzers

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Basic understanding on analytical chemistry.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills together with the ability to effectively manage project deliverables.
  • Math and statistical analysis.
  • Computer skills – Chromatography Data System (CDS), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), spreadsheets, word processing, graphic presentation generation.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work independently or in a team based environment.
  • Persuasive communication skills.
  • Effective email/vocal communication. 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2-year Technical Associate Science Degree required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a lab setting.
  • Must have working knowledge of GCs.
  • Must have knowledge of standardized methodology – ASTM, UOP, IFP, etc.
  • Able to learn new analytical instrumentation as necessary.
  • Ability to work shift schedules.
