Mechanical Designer
Location: Houston, TX
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team in Houston, TX. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating detailed designs and drawings for material handling equipment, including belt conveyors, using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet client specifications and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs for material handling equipment, including belt conveyors, supports, and related components, using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Create and review engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet client requirements and project timelines.
- Perform design calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity, functionality, and safety of equipment.
- Support the fabrication and assembly process by providing technical guidance and resolving design-related issues.
- Participate in design reviews, incorporating feedback to optimize designs for performance and cost-efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and technical reports.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in material handling equipment design.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in material handling, conveyor systems, or related industries.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and SolidWorks (3D modeling) is required.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including structural analysis, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication skills to interact with internal teams and external clients.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI) is a plus.
