Lead SCADA EMS Engineer

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Description


Provide engineering and technical support for the SCADA/EMS system operation used to monitor and control the Electrical system.  Provide engineering expertise for the real time transmission electrical system model used for operating the SCADA-EMS Power Flow, Contingency Analysis and State Estimator.  Technical support includes programming, designing, implementing, and analyzing all facets of the SCADA/EMS system software.  Ensures accuracy, integrity and continuous real time 24 hour operation of the SCADA/EMS system.  Provides technical expertise and coordination to other departments.

Primary Duties:
  • Provides engineering and technical support of Power System Network applications, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, and Optimal Power Flow for System Operators.
  • Provides support to System Operator team on matters related to state estimation and power flow analysis.
  • Performs state estimator, power flow and contingency analysis during significant system events.
  • Responsible for long term planning of EMS databases, sizing expansion and implementation so that expansion of the electrical system model can be accommodated.
  • Develops and maintains seasonal transmission SCADA database equipment ratings.  Verifies updates, facilitates notification process for updates, validates accuracy of the ratings, and resolves conflicts in ratings.
  • Acts as a resource for members with less experience, may direct the technical work of others.
  • Implements initiatives from Southwest Power Pool that result in changes to Energy Management processes and applications.  Capable of specifying gaps in existing applications and initiatives.  
  • Represents the Company in Southwest Power Pool meetings and implements necessary changes to software and processes.
  • Monitors industry activity to provide consultative advice on complex engineering matters related to transmission system operations and system dynamics
  • Performs data management and data extraction as necessary to support business unit reporting, regulatory data requests and operations support.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate documentation and operating procedures for all system and application functions.
  • Coordinates ICCP communications to maintain superior real-time monitoring and data exchange with Southwest Power Pool and interconnected utilities.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, And
  • 6 years of related Engineering experience. - At least 4 years as an Engineer, and a maximum of 2 years "related" experience, which may include non-engineering experience such as Engineering Internships, Design, Drafting, and Engineering Tech experience (This type of experience will be counted at half rate).
  • Certification - Professional Engineer
  • Valid State Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience developing, modifying and maintaining system models.
  • Experience using, modifying and maintaining SCADA/EMS systems.
  • Experience interpreting and applying NERC reliability standards.
  • Experience performing detailed event analysis following a disturbance on the transmission system.
  • Able to communicate effectively in speech and writing with members at all levels throughout the organization and outside professionals.
  • Self motivated.
  • In depth knowledge and experience in multiple engineering initiatives.
  • Able to work with supervision and make independent decisions.
