Electrical Engineer IV (Tactical Projects)
Location: Houston, TX
Description
As an Electrical Engineer IV, you will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for the electrical engineering scope within tactical capital projects. You will support the full project lifecycle—from concept development and technical design through construction and commissioning—for upgrades, expansions, and new installations in compressor stations, gas processing plants, and pipeline systems.
This role demands deep industry knowledge, strong field experience, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to drive safety, reliability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute electrical engineering design, review, and support for small- to mid-sized capital projects.
- Conduct technical and economic evaluations for new or modified facilities.
- Prepare electrical drawings, one-lines, load studies, arc flash analyses, grounding, lighting, and motor control system designs.
- Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and operations to ensure deliverables meet scope, schedule, and budget targets.
- Perform performance testing and validate the design of new and existing facilities.
- Supervise or mentor junior engineers and designers as needed.
- Serve as technical SME on power distribution systems up to 15kV, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, VFDs, switchgear, UPS, and instrumentation systems.
- Champion compliance with NEC, NEMA, IEEE, NFPA 70E, API, and internal engineering standards.
- Lead or support HAZOPs, constructability reviews, FATs, commissioning, and turnover activities.
- Present technical recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Monitor and control engineering costs and resource usage across assigned projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- Minimum of 8 years of electrical engineering experience in the natural gas or petrochemical industry.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead electrical engineering on compressor station turbine installations and/or similar midstream facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NEMA, API, IEEE, etc.).
- Strong experience in arc flash review and mitigation planning.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and engineering software tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of promoting and implementing safety and compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and industrial instrumentation systems (PLC/HMI design and integration).
- Project Management experience, including cost control and scheduling.
- Exposure to FEED, Pre-FEED, or EPC phases for small to medium-sized facility projects.
