Electrical Designer

Location: Houston, TX


We are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to join our engineering team in Houston, TX. The Electrical Designer will develop electrical systems and control designs for material handling equipment, including belt conveyors, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with industry standards. This role requires collaboration with mechanical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to deliver integrated solutions.


Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems and control panels for material handling equipment, including belt conveyors, motors, and automation systems.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Select appropriate electrical components, such as motors, sensors, PLCs, and wiring, to meet project specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, including NEC, UL, and IEC 61850 where applicable.
  • Collaborate with mechanical designers and engineers to integrate electrical systems with mechanical components.
  • Support installation, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems during fabrication and commissioning.
  • Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and specifications for electrical systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and incorporating feedback to optimize designs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical design trends and technologies relevant to material handling systems.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–10 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in material handling, industrial automation, or related industries.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software for creating electrical schematics and layouts.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, motor controls, and PLC programming.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NEC, UL, IEC) and safety regulations.
  • Experience with control system design and integration is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience with field commissioning and troubleshooting is preferred.
