Director of Engineering - Civil Transportation
Location: St Louis, MO
Description
In this role, you will direct and be accountable for all aspects of the Civil and Transportation Engineering business in the St. Louis office. The candidate will help create a strategic plan for a Civil and Transportation Engineering business in the St. Louis area markets. The plan will align with the overall strategic plan for the development of a Transportation Design business in all the offices.
Job Responsibilities:
Facilitate the creation of a strategic plan in alignment with the overall strategic plan for the development of a Transportation and Civil Infrastructure Design business in Missouri and other areas around St. Louis
Identify existing and new target clients for the growth of the business in the St. Louis area
Execute projects, meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget
Execute projects, meeting or exceeding internal expectations for quality, schedule, labor/cost budgets, project profitability, safety, and client satisfaction
Hire and grow a team who will complete the following in support of the office:
Create & cultivate key relationships within target client organizations
Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with leadership.
Grow a successful engineering office
Recruit key project staff with design and project management capabilities
Collaborate to leverage existing engineering and design-build capabilities for the growth of the organization
Ensure profitable and sound growth
Participate in go/no-go evaluations, ensure the establishment of project work plans, and review fee estimates
Recruit, develop, and retain high performers
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
10 years of progressive experience in transportation design leading to 5 years as an independent lead designer and culminating with at least 3 years successfully performing design management and coordination activities as a project manager or in assistance to a design project manager.
Manager – Working knowledge of one or two highly related design disciplines (civil, roadway, or bridge) and the ability to manage and coordinate all design activities thereof
Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:
Must be a Registered Professional Engineer in MO
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Knowledge of design document production and presentation software
Ability to budget, manage and forecast in EcoSys or other business unit approved design management software
Communications, negotiations, management, and leadership skills
Knowledge and experience in design project management including, but not limited to, budgeting, scheduling, proposal writing, staffing, coordination, forecasting, conflict resolution, and change management
Qualifications
Education
Preferred - Bachelors or better in Civil Engineering or related field.
Licenses & Certifications
Required - Professional Engineer
