Job Description

Civil Engineer

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Description

Develops plans and specifications, performs analysis, and provides reports on assigned tasks involving the design and construction of new facilities or the operation and maintenance of existing facilities. Technically involved in resolving equipment and operational problems, which may include performing field investigations or inspections, performing design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.

  • Conduct surveys to gather field data.

  • Solve problems and develop solutions requiring original approaches based on thorough and comprehensive research and technical expertise.

  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for small to medium-sized projects.

  • Function as a quality inspector or define quality requirements for engineering designs and projects.

  • Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and best practices.

  • Review and critique proposed changes to engineering standards, policies, and guidelines.

  • Focus on operational/tactical aspects of the organization with some strategic involvement.

  • Provide technical presentations to elected officials, appointed boards/commissions, the public, and staff.

  • Act as a liaison with other departments, divisions, and organizations.

  • Lead lower-level engineers in project completion.

  • Plan, prioritize, conduct, and lead assignments.

  • Act as a resource for less experienced team members; may direct technically complex work.

  • Meet with the public, developers, landowners, and interest groups regarding zoning, subdivision projects, building projects, and engineering regulations, standards, or policies.

  • Serve as project or case manager for the development, facilitation, and implementation of metrics, processes, and procedures.

  • Communicate with regulatory bodies and government agencies.

  • Create and update engineering standards, policies, and guidelines; ensure procedures are in place for compliance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum of 6 years of related engineering experience, including at least 4 years as an Engineer.

  • Up to 2 years of related non-engineering experience (e.g., internships, drafting, design, or tech roles) may be counted at half rate.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Civil/Structural Professional Engineer (PE) designation required.

  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with inspection and maintenance of dams.

  • Experience with water and wastewater permitting.

  • Experience with the design and maintenance of retention ponds at industrial facilities.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

  • May work at heights exceeding 30 feet, underground, or in confined spaces.

  • May require travel and non-standard work schedules.
