Description
Performs professional accounting functions using generally accepted accounting principles in areas including budgets, financial, taxation, property, compliance, supporting all aspects of Joint Use and Pole Attachment activities. Responsible for routine cost splitting, billing, reconciliation, financial reporting, and collections related to Joint Use, and assists senior accountants in complex tasks.
Level of Responsibility
- General responsibilities with standardized processes.
- Works under limited supervision, resolves routine questions and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher levels.
- Some latitude for deviation.
Essential Functions
- Independently perform moderately complex accounting activities for Joint Pole Safety Inspection Cost Splitting, Joint Pole Audit Cost Splitting, Make Ready Cost Splitting, and ILEC Cost Sharing Splitting (Joint Use vs. Pole Attachment).
- Assist in updating cost splitting records in accordance with dispute resolutions and regulatory changes.
- Prepare and process annual billing statements, reconcile accounts with attachers and ILECs, and generate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Process invoices and payments related to joint use, pole attachments, and rental agreements.
- Support attachment rental billing and payments, monitor collections, and assist with default management processes including bankruptcies and rental notifications.
- Communicate with attachers, ILECs, and other stakeholders regarding billing, cost splits, dispute resolutions, and financial reporting.
- Perform detailed analysis of accounting and business information related to Joint Use functional area.
- Use best practices and knowledge of functional accounting principles and business operations to ensure completeness, accuracy, and usefulness of records.
- Identify variances, prepare detailed explanations, and correspond with peers or internal customers, management, etc. as needed to resolve discrepancies.
- Make recommendations to assist the Company or department in making decisions regarding present, future, and potential costs.
- Lead in identifying the appropriate recording and reporting of financial information that achieves department and company objectives.
- Analyze data, prepare journal entries, and assist in the preparation of various accounting schedules, reports, filings, returns, and/or statements on a timely basis.
- Interact with auditors on various matters, specifically preparation of audit schedules and reviews.
- Ensure completeness, accuracy, and usefulness of accounting records.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Proven personal computer skills with strong knowledge in Microsoft applications and other related software (Excel, SAP).
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve routine accounting problems with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate in speech and writing with members at all levels throughout the organization and outside professionals.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- CPA or a candidate pursuing a CPA.
Education / Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and 3 years directly related experience; OR Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or other business-related degree with 12 hours of Accounting, and 3 years directly related experience.
