Job Description

Accountant III

Location: Houston, TX

Responsibilities/Expectations:
  • Collaborates cross functionally with others to assure accurate financial reporting information
  • Prepares, maintains, and develops schedules, reports, and analyses for internal/external customers
  • Assists with the monthly close process
  • Performs assigned month-end activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, management reporting, SEC reporting and variance analysis
  • Comprehends and prepares journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statements
  • Communicates and coordinates with company partners
  • Processes and analyses significant amounts of data, including issues and transactions
  • Prepares and reviews FERC Form 3Q and Form 2 filings as well as XBRL tagging
  • Provides requested documentation and clear explanations for audit processes
  • Participates in small projects with minimal mentorship and acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Preferred: Prior experience in regulatory accounting, financial reporting and statement consolidation, and preparation of a cash flow statement – depending on the years of experience
  • Preferred: Prior experience with Oracle ERP or similar applications, Workiva, and PowerBi – depending on the years of experience
  • Preferred: Familiarity with US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)

Education/Years of Experience:
  • Required: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related major with a strong accounting focus
  • Experience required: 1 to 5 years in accounting in the energy industry

Other Requirements:
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Promotes effective cross-functional communication and collaboration within the team and across departments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial skills
