Operations Superintendent 

Location: Brownsville, TX

Description: 

The Operations Supervisor is an experienced professional responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a new LNG export facility. This critical role involves leading on shift operational activities, ensuring team skills and knowledge requirements are met, and enforcing strict adherence to process design, safety regulations, and environmental compliance. The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge and a proven track record in LNG facility operations, with a strong requirement for hands-on experience in facilities utilizing APCI liquefaction technology. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams during commissioning, startup, and initial operations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to the operations team, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the LNG facility according to established procedures and regulations.
  • Ensure required training and assessments are completed so Operations Shift Teams have the skills and knowledge needed for their roles.
  • Take full accountability for all operational activities during initial startup and operation, including startup, shutdown, and continuous operation of liquefaction, pre-treatment, utilities, storage, and loading systems.
  • Act as the primary on-site operational decision maker, proactively identifying and resolving operational issues, abnormal conditions, and emergencies.
  • Foster effective communication and coordination with Construction, Maintenance, Engineering, Automation, and other departments during commissioning and startup.
  • Oversee monitoring and control of plant processes via control systems and field equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to design parameters and safe operating limits.
  • Manage and prioritize operations team workload, ensuring adequate staffing and efficient resource use.
  • Ensure accurate completion of operational logs, shift reports, testing procedures, and other required documentation.
  • Lead and participate in commissioning and startup activities, including system startups, walkdowns, and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Champion process safety, ensuring adherence to safety procedures, managing the Permit to Work system, and participating in safety initiatives and risk assessments.
  • Provide mentorship and training to operations personnel, supporting technical development and maintaining competency.
  • Monitor plant performance, analyze operational data, identify trends, and drive optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Manage chemical inventories and initiate procurement as needed.
  • Coordinate vendor activities on?site when required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, plus 5+ years of progressive operations experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or LNG—with demonstrated leadership.
  • Proven experience operating APCI C3MR or similar LNG liquefaction technology.
  • Strong understanding of process safety management principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and team management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound operational decisions under pressure and during emergencies.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in an LNG facility.
  • Proficiency with process control systems (e.g., DCS) and relevant software.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, troubleshoot effectively, and implement solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LNG plant commissioning and startup.
  • Formal training in incident command and emergency response.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to LNG operations.
