Job Description

HR Intern

Location: Sandston, VA

The HR Intern position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full spectrum of Human Resources. This role involves active participation in daily HR operations, supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, benefits, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.


Leave Administration & Compliance
  • Serve as primary contact for employee medical leave procedures and tracking
  • Maintain integrity, confidentiality, and accurate documentation
  • Support federal and state compliance reports, projects, and audits
  • Serve on the Quality audit team
  • Review and assist with updating policies, job descriptions, and compliance documentation
Management of Employee Benefits
  • Ensure new hire benefits are reviewed and entered into vendor systems and MyHR
  • Update plan endings and COBRA notifications upon termination
  • Update annual benefits summary sheets for both sites
  • Submit benefits reports to vendors for Total Rewards Statements
Employee Engagement
  • Manage employee attendance and recognition programs
  • Assist in coordinating business meetings and town hall events
  • Support planning and execution of wellness initiatives
  • Manage media communications and monitor announcements
  • Assist with special events: benefits enrollment, company-wide meetings, recognition events, holiday parties, and retirements
Reports
  • Generate attendance, hours, and weekly headcount reports
  • Prepare Cost Center Count Report for Finance
  • Submit weekly HRA report to Finance
  • Assist with month-end and year-end reporting to HR
HR Priorities
  • Coordinate job interview scheduling
  • Manage HRIS data in MyHR
  • Support onboarding of new employees
  • Notify relevant teams for laptop setup and training profiles
  • Assist new hires with benefits enrollment
  • Post HR communications in visible locations
  • Champion corporate initiatives and activities
  • Assist with payroll and benefits inquiries
  • Help update and maintain office policies
  • Coordinate with IT for office equipment needs
  • Handle birthday, anniversary, and sympathy acknowledgments
Qualifications & Skills
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace or MS Office (especially Excel and Outlook)
  • Strong time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Blend of hard and soft skills including communication and organization
  • Interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and attention to detail
  • Understanding of HR software, legal compliance, and data analysis
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Accuracy in documentation and compliance awareness
  • Quick learner with adaptability and eagerness to acquire new knowledge
  • Familiarity with HR systems and software is a plus
