Description

• Carry out assigned mechanical engineering calculations under the guidance of senior engineering and design staff. Work methods and procedures to be defined by immediate supervisor. Review and checking of work to be carried out by senior engineering and design staff.
• Participate in field investigations and field advisory roles as assigned with close consultation with or under the direct supervision of senior engineering and design staff.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Accountable to VP of Engineering for delivering agreed work product, within the agreed timeframe, in the established and agreed format.
• Accountable to VP of Engineering for concentrated effort to become familiar with our work methods, procedures.

JOB CONTEXT & CONTENT

• Work may involve execution of Mechanical Studies on Projects for which the company is contracted to carry out detailed calculations that may then be directed toward evaluation of upgrades to achieve improved performance.
• Work may involve execution of Process Design on Projects for which the company is contracted to design and/or supply and/or erect furnace equipment.

PROBLEMS FACED

• Work assigned may be unfamiliar with first exposure to a task.
• Work assigned may be familiar based on classroom studies.
• Work assigned may be somewhat familiar based on co-op exposure / experience.

PLANNING and ORGANISATION

• Employee will be expected to make themselves aware of the required schedule for completion of the assigned work and to ask for assistance as necessary in order to meet the required schedule.
• Employee should periodically review progress of work with Supervisor in order to assure that work is proceeding on the correct basis and that schedule issues are identified and acted upon in a timely fashion.

DIRECTION RECEIVED

• Upon assignment of tasks, direction will be provided by direct supervisor on the methods and tools that must be used to carry out the assigned tasks. Periodic review of progress will be carried out and adjustment or update of the instructions and tools will be made as necessary.
• During the execution of the task, employee will be provided with additional input on the technical background of the work to provide employee with better comprehension of the calculations and the use of the work product.

KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE

• Basics of Mechanical Engineering (BS of Mechanical Engineering)
• Ability to carry out unfamiliar work in a systematic way in order to identify areas of the work that require further understanding before proceeding.
