Team Leader Systems Infrastructure - Hybrid Position

This technical leadership position is responsible for leading a team of System Administrators and Engineers in day-to-day operations of building and supporting the server and storage infrastructure. The team lead will mentor team members and ensure they are fully equipped to pursue the team vision and purpose- to design, implement, support and maintain a highly available server and storage infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work alongside other technical teams daily to architect and provision servers and storage solutions to fit their project needs

• Responsible for leading engineers and administrators in the architecture and maintenance of the server or storage infrastructure

• Provide annual capacity reviews and forecasting upward to management, reviewing system best practices and ensuring systems are heathy, monitored and tuned for performance

• Lead team projects and tasks and hold team responsible to deadlines, monitor tickets and ensure requests are being acted upon timely and within SLAs

• Respond to and participate in issue calls, and maintain a team on-call rotation for after-hour response

• Analyze current technology utilized within the company and develop steps and processes to improve and expand upon them, staying up-to-date on emerging technology trends

• Meets financial requirements by submitting information for budgets for technology requirements, and working with vendors purchasing and renewals

• Develop and maintain vendor relationships, escalating support issues as needed

• Responsible for managing subordinate employees: hiring, training, supervision, reviews, promotions, and scheduling

• Designing and implementing metrics that monitor progress and effectiveness of the team and individuals

• Hold team accountable for thorough and accurate documentation

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor degree required, preferably in MIS, Info Sys, Science or related field.

Experience:

• 8+ years of professional IT industry experience

• 6+ years of system administration experience

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Project management and technical leadership skills

• Extensive knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware vCenter/ESXi

• Expert knowledge of Enterprise Storage systems and protocols NFS/iSCSI/SMB/CIFS/S3

• Linux and Windows Server administration applying patches, ensuring health, right-sizing, ensuring quality DR architecture, and troubleshooting problems

• Experience administering backup and recovery software

• Data retention and capacity planning

• In depth knowledge and experience with blade servers, such as Cisco UCS

• Powershell or similar command line tools used to manage and automate

• Using a log aggregation tool, such as Splunk, for troubleshooting and reporting

• Network administration DNS, ports and firewalls, VLANs, NAT

• Multi-node system architecture planning and design

• System performance tuning

• Ability to drive business decisions using technical insights.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

• MTA/MCSE

• VMware VCP/ VCAP / VCDX

Skills/Abilities:

• Familiar with Kubernetes, Containers and Cloud Native Technologies (CNCF)

• Experience with VDI/VMware Horizon

• Web application architecture and technologies
