Location: Houston, TX- Hybrid
Description:
The Company's L48 Gulf Coast and Rockies Ops Geology team is looking for a highly skilled Geologic Data Analyst to support the planning and execution of the drilling and development program. This dynamic horizontal development program currently includes the Eagle Ford and Bakken assets, and the GCR Ops Geology team is actively planning and executing wells for 9 rigs across those assets.
A successful candidate will support both our Eagle Ford and Bakken programs as part of an integrated team supporting the business across Gulf Coast and Rockies. The individual selected will provide significant value to the asset via development of company operated acreage through collaboration, communication, and technical integration.
This Data Analyst role requires detailed management of real-time and end-of-well data from engineering and geologic sources; an ability to evaluate and QC that data; and skills to support bigger picture projects using Spotfire, Petrel, and StarSteer software. Most tasks will require a proficiency in programming languages such as Python and VBA.

We are seeking an analyst with an understanding of Geology, Geosteering, and Drilling basics.
Responsibilities may include:
- Understanding, following, and encouraging others to follow all safety procedures both in the office and field.
- Sorting, QC’ing, and/or archiving of well plans, well headers, well location reconciliation, EOW Reports, mudlogs, and final well curve data
- QC'ing and updating the GeoNet database with daily incoming data, geo model extractions, core data, and regular final report notes.
- QC'ing and updating our Trouble Time databases and integrating with drilling data
- Creating and maintaining StarSteer base projects, and organizing older StarSteer final projects
- Updating our StarSteer projects with core data, wireline curves, and two-component curves
- Managing real-time WITSML feeds
- Setting up data management standards and supporting team application of those standards
- Supporting data integration with in-house databases and with third-party data repositories to ensure all relevant planning and well execution data is available for the team
- Creating and maintaining Spotfire dashboards
- Python scripting support and troubleshooting for macros and tools
- Updating and maintaining Geology well notes database
- Working and partnering with an extended multidisciplinary team to establish and achieve project goals. Key relationships include Geologists and Reservoir Engineers in the Development and Reservoir Characterization teams; Drilling and Completions group, and service companies.
- Supporting bigger picture projects across teams by providing data evaluation, organization, and QC for AI Geosteering, Lateral Hazards, Perf Layer Improvement, Geo Model Strat Positioning, and other projects
- Maintaining excellent communication among team members to ensure safe and cost-effective decisions are made.
- Capturing and sharing lessons learned and leading practices across BUs
- Demonstrating accountability for delivering results by achieving goals while complying with work policies and procedures.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Geospatial-related fields or Data Architecture, Engineering, or Management fields
- 2+ years of industry experience in geoscience and/or data analytics
- Advanced Python, SQL, API’s, and VBA programming proficiency
- Proficient with MS Office suite of tools, Spotfire, and Arc GIS
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- 2+ years direct experience as an operations geologist or as a geoscientist in an unconventional play for a major or large independent oil and gas company.
